German firm blocked shipments to U.S. distributor after drug sent for executions

A German manufacturer confirmed on Thursday that it took the extraordinary step of suspending shipments of a widely used drug to a U.S. distributor this year after 20 vials were mistakenly sent to the state of Missouri to be used in executions.

Angela Merkel was on track to win a third term as chancellor in a German election on Sunday after her conservatives scored their best result in decades, but it was unclear whether she could avoid being forced into a coalition with her leftist rivals
A leftist trio of Social Democrats, Greens and the Linke party scored 44% to the 45% garnered by German Chancellor Angela Merkel's centre-right coalition, the last survey before elections showed, promising a tight race in Sunday's vote.

Germany will sign a Group of 20 statement supported by 10 nations calling for a strong international response to Syria's alleged use of chemical weapons, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said on Saturday.
French President Francois Hollande and Germany's Joachim Gauck paid a historic visit to the ghost village of Oradour-sur-Glane on Wednesday, where 642 people were killed in a 1944 Nazi massacre. Gauck is the first German leader to visit the site.
The US National Security Agency (NSA) spied on the internal communications of France’s foreign ministry and diplomats, as well as those of the Qatar-based television station Al-Jazeera, a German magazine said Sunday.
