Re: ”I'm already over 60 . . .“
Did I fail to mention that I'm RETIRING? If that's not enough of a hint then the fact that I'm sending my son off to college in a few weeks and the various aches and pains I keep griping about ought to be clue enough that I'm no spring chicken either. Not that I'm over SIXTY (wow, that really does sound old!) but I'm gettin' there. I'm definitely over 35. Yup, yup, yup.... shoulda had my son at an earlier age. Then I'd be younger now.
Re: ”Do I really want a 'second career' that has me working from sunup till sundown just to have food on the table?“
Who does? But it beats going hungry.
re: "Ground zero for any nuclear armed adversary which will NOT want to have those carriers running around loose."
Do you remember the map I posted a while back showing the comparative survivability of the various states in the aftermath of a nuclear war? New Hampshire was red from end to end. All-out nuclear war is one of the TEOTWAWKI scenarios that I'm not spending any time on. It's probably not survivable by most people regardless of their preparations, and those that do would probably live through it mostly out of luck.
In fact, the only situation I'm focusing on is monetary collapse - both because it IS survivable and because it is certain to occur. If our doom instead comes from plague, supervolcano, sudden ice age, limited military engagement (say, a North Korean e.m.p. over Nebraska), or any of a hundred other not-totally-impossible disasters, they might be survivable too, but I'm not going to waste my time worrying about the once-every-sixty-million-years things. I just want to live through what's going to happen when Americans suddenly realize that the country is dead broke and nobody is going to be feeding the masses for free.
I've been in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. There are a lot of masses there. If what I've described happens in your lifetime, you're going to be hurting bad. That doesn't matter to you?
Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
