Dem Redistricting Org Raises $10.8M in First 6 Months
The new Democratic redistricting group backed by former President Obama has raised $10.8 million in just six months, according to financial filings. Politico reports the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which aims to influence how and where the boundaries of congressional electoral districts are drawn, and which is chaired by former Attorney General Eric Holder, received most of that money from megadonors. Among the high-dollar givers were Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath, who donated $125,000 each. In total, about 10,000 people contributed, thanks to a rush of small donors after the 2016 election.
