We made it to our first overnight stop, in Holbrook, AZ.

We left at 7:10am and had to fight better than two hours of traffic to get to Victorville, about 80 miles, but from there on it was smooth sailing. Our only side trip was a stop at the Meteor Crater near Winslow, AZ. Here's a panoramic shot of the crater:

Well, my wife and I leave on Tuesday, August 1st, for our 26 day vacation (do you still call it a "vacation" if you're retired) which will include that stop in Nebraska on the way back for the eclipse. We're leaving early on Tuesday with our first night in Holbrook, AZ, then on to Amarillo, TX, the second night, Little Rock, AR, the third, Marion, IL, the forth and finally Adrian, MI, our final destination. We start back on Friday the 18th, with stops in Rockford, IL, and Des Moines, IA, before reaching York, NB, on Sunday, before the Eclipse on Monday. Then it's down to Waco, TX for a couple days before heading West toward SoCal arriving home on Saturday, the 26th.

Besides the eclipse, we're planning to hit a few more presidential libraries (we've been to five so far and should pick up at least four more on this trip). There's also trips planned to our home town in Northern Michigan as well as catching up with family and friends along the way as well as the occasional side trip based on some whim (watch for the 'Brown' signs on the highway as they'll direct you to local historical landmarks or unusual sights).

Anyway, I'll keep everyone up-to-date and will supply photos as we go, including of course some of my shots of the eclipse.
