Navy: Remains of some of the 10 sailors missing in the USS McCain collision near Singapore have been found
By Washington Post Staff August 22 at 7:08 AM
A frantic search had been underway for 10 sailors who had been missing since the USS John S. McCain, a guided-missile destroyer, was significantly damaged during a collision with an oil tanker off the coast of Singapore early Monday morning. Aircraft had been searching the sea where the collision happened, but on Tuesday, divers were sent in to search the compartments that had been sealed to stop the ship from flooding.
This is the fourth incident this year involving a Navy destroyer in Asia, and comes barely two months after the USS FItzgerald, which is also based at the 7th Fleet headquarters in Yokosuka, Japan, was involved in a collision. Seven sailors died during that incident.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
