...could it be that the folks are actually renters and not homeowners and that they don't have renters insurance? That is what the situation was in New Orleans or so I heard.

Why does Houston flood so frequently?

Nationally, repeat federal flood relief payouts averaged about $3,000 per square mile. But in greater Houston, the payouts were nearly a whopping $500,000 per square mile.

Home owners insurance should always be had on a home. FLOOD INSURANCE though is a totally different animal and home insurance do not provide that. They must get that from the GUBMINT flood insurance.....

At least that is what my understanding is.....

I do not have flood insurance as I live nowhere near any streams, creeks, low lying places, and am extremely unlikely to ever need to worry about flood waters getting into my house....

On the other hand, if I lived anywhere near a coast line, I would not be without it......

You bring up a very good point.....
