Usually those hurricanes which start off the coast of
Africa (Where Irma was birthed) tend to curl North,
and occasionally hammer the Eastern seaboard.
Virginia Beach (where I am) usually sees some protection
from Cape Hatteras (where North Carolina sticks out
into the Atlantic) . . . but the ones that 'get us'
tend to start way to the East.
I see it's up to Cat 3 now and the path is arcing up a little more. Advisory says Texas and Louisiana could get some rain from it. But early to project where it's going.
