A lot of things were done in profound ignorance and for the sake of cost cutting in the auto industry.

...also to come into compliance with epa rules and rules regarding imaginary gas mileage requirements. Industry determined that the easiest way to make da gubmint happy was to make the cars lighter. I miss the days of steel dashboards, no seatbelts and standing up in the front seat between my parents when we went on a drive.

The Chevy Vega was GM's response to FORD's FABULOUS PINTO, many of which were found alongside most roads DEAD....

BOTH were pieces of JUNK as were many of CHRYSLER corporation cars of that time period into the 80's and 90's.

Mixing and matching aluminum and steel was not well thought out and was done anyway for trying to reduce vehicle weight.

A lot of things were done in profound ignorance and for the sake of cost cutting in the auto industry.

The VEGA is one really prime example. I will send you a sympathy card. Belated of course.....
