>> "So often, white evangelicals have been pointing in judgment to white mainline groups, saying when you have liberal theology you decline," said Robert Jones, chief executive of PRRI. "I think this data really does challenge that interpretation of linking theological conservatism and growth."
Huh ? This guy doesn't believe his OWN polling results which conclusively demonstrate the truth in the statement that liberal theology causes decline ?
ALL the 'main line' denominations have gotten FAR more liberal (read- man's word substituted for G_d's WORD) over the past decades and it most certainly HAS resulted in a marked decline in the number of Christians.
From a Christian theologically (ie. Biblically based) understanding, this is perfectly understandable. G_d's Word accomplishes FAITH - it is NOT of ourselves - and when we abandon and reject HIS WORD - substituting 'our word' because it 'tickles the ear' of many - FAITH is rejected also. All glory, laud, and honour ... to HIM alone. We do not 'come to FAITH' - FAITH comes to us, through G_d's WORD alone.
So, Robert Jones, chief executive of PRRI, you also demonstrate this total lack of understanding. What you call 'conservative theology' is not liberal or conservative at all. It is the difference between NOT changing G_d's WORD, to changing to 'our words' in a futile attempt to appeal to men, which never builds FAITH. That is the difference between 'Religion of the LAW and Religion of the Gospel'. There are only two religions - "The Way, the Truth, the Light - G_d has done it ALL and all GOOD comes from HIM ALONE" and 'what we can do to be better idiots'.
To unbelievers, Christianity is foolishness - and will never make sense.
Christ Himself is the author and PERFECTOR of the 'Christian Faith' - not man and his (lack) of any power to do that which is perfect.
