You gotta have a measure of your debt, otherwise, you just do as you wish. It becomes too easy to borrow more and more. No one does that who has a brain.

The problem is not in the debt limit, it is in stupid decisions and wrong priorities, as well as the tax issue, where we pay far less than any developed country in tne world, and we spend like drunk sailors. In some ways, like infrastructure, we are between first and third world, for example, while giving huge taxbreaks to the rich like Trump, who pays nothing, on the made up reason that it will help the ....economy.

If you don't want to spend the money, don't put it in the budget.

The debt limit accomplishes nothing but to make for annual periods of panic and recriminations to say nothing of the occasional costly shutdown that ends up hurting average Americans more than anyone else.

It's like the parents using a charge card but at the end of the month, having to go to their 10 year old to get permission to pay the bill.
