You got it in one, Zim.

Wireless recharging is NOT new at all. It has been around for a very long time. I bought a 'wireless' recharging electric toothbrush over 10 years ago.

It is quite simple, and based on the same principle as the 'induction motors' of ole Nick Tesla ... also the same principle behind ANY radio antennae. How many hear ever built a 'crystal radio' receiver. No batteries needed, no power source needed, just a very long 'antenae'.

The principle is electro-magnetic induction. Create a magnetic field (which all electric fields generate, such as 'radio waves' and 'microwaves'), place a wire at ninety degrees to that field, and 'voila' -one gets electricity.

Farmers used to power small devices (like a 100 watt bulb) by running wires parrallel to a main power grid line - that dates back to at least 1930's.

BUT - as Zim points out- unless one turns off the 'magnetic field generator', power is consumed continuousy, whether devices are charged or not.

I have to wonder . . .
Just how much energy would be wasted trying to
wirelessly re-charge our devices . . .

I mean, radio waves, microwaves, whatever tend to
go out in all directions. But the device is only
one direction from the power source.

Zim.
