I was supposed to be in the city for an event on 9/11, but a couple of days ago, they cancelled it with no explanation. It said
Our September 11 event, Intelligence & Counterterrorism 16 Years after 9/11 must be postponed to a future date. ... Since the note struck me as odd, since it would have been so easy to say the speakers had conflicts because of the storm or there's a scheduling conflict or whatever, I emailed and said, is there a threat to the city? No answer, whatsoever. On Fox yesterday they said there's no specific threat.
You are right, we need to be on the alert. With hurricanes hitting us, any one of a number of enemies could decide we're distracted and attack us one way or another.
In NY, there's an app called See Something, Send Something, which was mentioned on the NY State Department of Homeland Security page. You can send text and photos. I have a folder called Emergency on my iphone that I stuck it in.
They also had a See Something Say Something phone number and email address, which I added to my phone book. Ya never know if you'll need it and you might not have time to scrounge around for it in an emergency. .
Other states probably have something similar, since it's DHS related. Have to look around at your state web sites. I was looking for the disaster tips like go bags and stuff and came across a short training video on emergency preparedness. I had a small bag, but I actually had to use the crank up radio a couple of times, then the crank broke. Grumble.
