Good advice, micro. I bet that the free protection doesn't last very long, though.

One of the things I hope to do in retirement is to consolidate all of my financial assets, then apply for a new social security number. I think consolidating my holdings beforehand will make the job of notifying the various financial institutions that much easier.

Of course, after I do this, my information will probably be stolen AGAIN. I just don't know . . . .

I harbor a little fear that one day I will wake up and hear that someone I don't know has sold my home and land out from under me. It COULD happen. Foreign governments aren't stealing all this information for no reason.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

HAs everyone here gone to equifax.com and checked to see if the information stolen included YOURSELF or other family members?

I suggest you do if you have not already. BOth myself and my wife had our personal identy information stolen.

Small things like
1. Social Security number
2.Our birthdates and names
3. our address
4. Some credit card information

Everything any identity thief needs to ruin your life...

SOOO, I recommend registering for the free identity protection if you are one of the 143 million who had their information stolen.......

Hope you did not......
