...with the garmin all ya have to do is plug it in to the lighter and stick it on the windshield. It has all the bells and whistles including gps. It knows where you are and what time it is. The motion sensor doesn't work if the motor isn't running cause the power outlet isn't hot.
...I also have a gps navigation system (garmin) and some kind of backup camera thingy. Oddly the Nissan truck I bought didn't have either built in. If I had it to do all over again I would have bought a Toyota which had it all built in.

I was happily surprised to learn that my dash cams have motion sensing. The cameras automatically turn on when the engine is running but also turn on for sixty seconds whenever motion is detected - assuming I have that function enabled.
I'm sure your camera is much better than mine - but, on the other hand, I paid $17 total for two cameras, not $150 for one. When you get right down to it, all that matters is whether they take decent videos and don't break in a month. If they don't work, then I'll throw them away and consider it a lesson learned. If they do, then I got a good deal.
