100 miles inland

There's been talk the East Coast could be hit by a tsunami that would completely cover Long Island if there's a massive landslide into the ocean, I think somewhere in Africa.

I'm not moving! Maybe we have a built in probability calculator, I don't know.

An interesting article popped up today. Looks like your mother and Zim should get out of coastal VA!
Jokes aside, this is a fascinating article to read on why the East Coast is sinking.

One conclusion that can be drawn is the climate change crowd sees some sea level rise and incorrectly and myopically assumed it was caused by global warming (although we know it was a scam for income redistribution from rich to poor states.

Their mention of the impact of reservoirs also lends credence to my proposition that the approximately 160 trillion pounds of water suddenly dumped on Houston could be what caused the 8.2 earthquake off Mexico.

U.S. East Coast slowly sinks into the sea, faces more frequent flooding

p. s., On De's argument that people are reckless in ignoring TEOTWAWKI, I don't think he was taking a shot at you, but merely pointing out the psychology of why people do stuff, not to mention B's stupid people sucking up govt money, and pointing out another great risk that people ignore, which is, arguing, both far more important due to its broad impact, and even more ignored. My point on the latter was there's so much flack thrown up around such issues, people are clueless as to what the truth is. Aspects of the truth are also complex and hard to understand.

Fascinating conversation, overall.

Nacl01,

My contention is pretty simple.

HIgher ground is always better if you live anywhere near a flood zone , a storm surge zone, a river, etc....

Do folks enjoy the shore? Of course! Me too!!!

Would I ever build a house next to one or near one?

NOPE. Maybe 100 miles away at the closest point on significantly higher ground and still would have to design it to withstand hurricane force winds.

And be equipped with an automatic generator that turns on when the electric cuts out within a few seconds and have enough gasoline to power it for a few weeks...

Well stocked deep freezers and extra refrigerator and plenty of survival food..... and water...

But that is just me........
