Micro - hmmmm ....

The point of my post was that we can 'plan for disasters' all we want, for naught. That does not preclude being wise in our decisions, in being good stewards of that which He has entrusted to our care.

In all the scriptures that you cite - it is NOT wisdom that comes from ourselves, or nature, or of government - They all speak to the wisdom that comes SOLELY from G_d's word, wisdom about people, about nature, about governments. Not wisdom that comes from our own reasoning, or studying OUTSIDE of His Word. Reread those passages with that as a 'test' of whether the statement is correct or not - ie. of what wisdom the Scriptures is speaking about. Where are we always directed to study, to increase our wisdom ?

Which is the greater wisdom - trusting in our planning, or trusting that G_d is in control ?

Mathew 6:26 - Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Ecclesiastes 1
1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

With Wisdom Comes Sorrow
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. 15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. (many examples - arguing with a leftist *s*, congress, those with hardened hearts ...)

16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. 18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

And of course, Job - his plans, his accomplishments, wiped out ... And what restored him ?

And finally - the first 'thinker' stimulator ...

Luke 12:28 - And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

...
In closing - this perfectly states what the intent of that brief post was:

22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. 23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? 25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? 26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? 29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. 30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. 31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. 32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. 34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

I waited until this morning and slept on and meditated upon the discussion over night.

I will share several scripture verses with you from lessons I have taught over three decades. They pertain to the subject of people who should have wisdom (knowledge) and common sense.

They are not to be ignorant. We are to be wise as serpents. Harmless as doves.

FOUR times in his epistles PAUL states clearly that he would not have you IGNORANT.

Ignorance is not something GOD wants for ANYONE, especially those who have placed their trust in His dear Son.

The term for sheer ignorance is foolish. It is used MANY many times in both old and new testaments and describes people who choose to be willfully ignorant.

Even NATURE ITSELF teaches us certain things about creation of this world and hence we can learn lots just by paying attention to it.... In all areas.

Here are a few scripture verses dealing with such things.

2 Peter 3: 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

Mt. 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Proverbs 10:13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod [is] for the back of him that is void of understanding.

Proverbs 3: 21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

Romans 1: 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

There simply is NO EXCUSE to be IGNORANT. In things spiritual and things pertaining to nature.

Jesus said that even the very ROCKS would cry out.

Kindly and please do not think or believe I am condemning all those people who have lost house and home and even family due to nature's fury. Nay.
What I am simply saying and questioning is WHY, when we should READILY KNOW and HAVE KNOWLEDGE that this area is prone to HURRICANES, which cover large areas, wreak devastation and havoc, are likely to flood me out, knock down my house or destroy my roof and windows, do I choose, desire and want to LIVE in this area that has a history of destruction from Hurricanes?

COMMON SENSE, KNOWLEDGE of HISTORY of WEATHER, WISDOM should all come into play in decision making as to that most basic need, where to build a home.....

I am not faulting those people nor condemning them. I simply do not understand WHY, given the above, would anyone choose to live there.

SECONDLY, WHY as a taxpayer should I be expected to see my taxes going to pay for the rebuilding of your house for the second, third, or fourth time????? Especially in light of the KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM that Hurricane season usually produces Hurricanes and they often times make their way to the Gulf of Mexico and onto the U.S. or to Florida or to the Atlantic Coastline.

AGAIN, common sense and lack of discernemt (willful ignorance) should not cost those who exercise discretion ad infinitum.

I would therefore suggest that if we are going to quote the scriptures, that we do so in their entirety.

GOD is not pleased with HIS own being IGNORANT of many things. They include government (he Ordained)and NATURE among them.

Be wise as serpents is the command. Harmless as doves.

Don't go around with a BAG over our head as do folks on another board we all know.

Let us be clear.
IT IS THE RIGHT of all these people in all these States in this entire country to choose where they want to live. No question and I have FOUGHT and was ready to sacrifice my own life willingly for the rights of my fellow citizens. As has DGP and Ribit and I do not know who else. (I am happy God allowed me to live through the war)

WHAT I do not understand is WHY they choose to live directly in the paths of destruction that come every single year and do so gladly and willingly.

As Beldin pointed out I believe, why should we be forced to continuously keep bailing out monetarily for the havoc wreaked that everyone knows is coming??

At some point, WHEN do people ever have to take on their own responsibility of financially rebuilding their own living place KNOWING FULL WELL this was not the first time and likely will not be the last..

SO I have mixed feelings about it.

I tend to question things. That is what engineers do.

I also tend to weigh those things in light of the Word of God which is where ALL wisdom is contained.

I mean NO DISRESPECT and in no way am I picking on you. You are a bright and shining star and have a wealth of knowledge you share here that I always read and enjoy.

We are a BLESSED board. We have an outstanding group of folks who, thankfully, do not always walk in LOCKED STEP or GROUP THINK.
We can view things differently because we see them from differing perspectives which broadens our minds.

I want to THANK YOU professor for causing me to think and expand my basis for WHAT I was thinking and WHY.
I examined myself. I examined God's Word again.

I am better for it. Thank you for that!

my best to you ,

micro...
