Ignorant? No. Duped? YES.

Before you disagree, I'm not saying you were duped about where the money went. You're right. Politicians don't let a fund accrue and then just sit idle. (This is also why I'm certain that the U.S. stockpile of gold is mostly gone from Fort Knox.) Politicians pilfer whenever they can and plan on replacing what they've taken sometime down the road, preferably after they're long gone. They're a scummy bunch that only fools like clo trust and adore.

But "you" (in quotes since you weren't even born yet) were duped, as were all Americans, by Congress when the Social Security Act was enacted. The way it was sold to Americans was a lie.

The taxes called for in this law will be paid both by your employer and by you. For the next 3 years you will pay maybe 15 cents a week, maybe 25 cents a week, maybe 30 cents or more, according to what you earn. That is to say, during the next 3 years, beginning January 1, 1937, you will pay 1 cent for every dollar you earn, and at the same time your employer will pay 1 cent for every dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. Twenty-six million other workers and their employers will be paying at the same time.

After the first 3 year--that is to say, beginning in 1940--you will pay, and your employer will pay, 1.5 cents for each dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. This will be the tax for 3 years, and then, beginning in 1943, you will pay 2 cents, and so will your employer, for every dollar you earn for the next 3 years. After that, you and your employer will each pay half a cent more for 3 years, and finally, beginning in 1949, twelve years from now, you and your employer will each pay 3 cents on each dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. That is the most you will ever pay.

3 cents on each dollar. That is the most you will ever pay. It says it right there, immediately after the Social Security Act was passed.

In hindsight, we can see that it was a lie. It's where we were all duped.

Today, the most you will pay is 6.2 cents on each dollar you earn. That's a far cry from the original promise... the lie... told by Congress... passed into law in 1936... put in writing by the Social Security administration... and accepted by a hundred million working Americans as a promise on which they could count.

Walter Williams is an American ICON and should, like Thomas Sowell, be accorded their rightful respected places in American Scholar circles...

Here is where I and Dr. Williams disagree.

The MONEY that was FORCEFULLY and without MY CONSENT STOLEN from my paycheck for whatever purposes, regardless of those purposes, was still MY MONEY. I earned it.\

It was taken from me without my consent or approval. I had NO SAY in that matter and yet, it came from MY EARNINGS.

Hence it belonged to me and theoretically still does.

Yes, Social Security is a massive PONZI Scheme Bernie Madoff can only dream about...

That does not mean I am blind to it or agree with it.

What does Dr. WIlliams suggest I as a citizen do about it?? Beside call me names and describe me as "duped"?

It IS MY MONEY. I should be able to tell you to the DIME how much of my money was taken from me without my consent and used for whatever purpose the Federal government wanted to use it for. We allknow the criminal politicians stole it and used it to pay for their over spending and sticking our noses every where in the world we did not belong. Or giving it away like they earned it, to every nation on earth... and redistributing it to anyone and everyone they thought needed it.....


Question for all?

Did Dr. Williams and Jefferson and Madison also mean that tax money should NOT be used to send to help States out with nature's calamities and that States should take care of those issues on their own level???

I am a bit unclear on that.....

Anyway, I find it a bit offensive that Dr. Williams has ascribed willful ignorance (duped) to most of us regarding the theft by government, started by FDR (DEMOCRAT LIBERAL), of money from our earnings for redistribution known as social security AND that the money was not really ours....

One point we have to agree to disagree....

Otherwise, brilliant as ever....
