KUDOS on the INSERT recommendation professor!

A replacement head would be better especially iffen it were machined and checked for flatness, and all the rest of it checked out good. An insert is definitely way better than a heli coil.

Another simple cause of rough idle is out of TIME.
Simple fix but there are multiple things that can cause idle to be rough. Fuel/air mixture is another.

Let's not overlook the obvious things. Most times when troubleshooting problems in a factory, that is the number one thing, The obvious which gets overlooked.

Keep thinking though, because ALL ideas will need to be explored and checked until process of elimination works..

Did you go to WYOTECH for mechanic school???

If memory serves, a rough idle is one of the signs of a vacuum leak (eg. intake manifold, or vacuum hose) - and can smooth out at higher rpm. Something caused that plug to burn like that.

You might want to consider an 'insert' instead of a helicoil - ask your machine shop guys. Helicoil on head bolts, mains, and others - but the high heat of spark plug, and intense pressure - insert may provide better heat transfer, plug seating, and 'thread seating' than a helicoil.

There are also larger thread plugs ??? 18mm vs ??14mm - and you may want to go that route instead. You just have to get the same heat range and thread length as your other plugs - but check that it would be available.

Again, ask the machine shop guys - they should steer you right on the best route. Show them that burned plug also.
