...all this crap is about selling Credit and identity protection. They announce a big breach of security, then offer ya free credit and identity protection for a year. The assumption here is that a significant number of people will start feel so warm and fuzzy with their product that they will want to pay for it after the end of that year. Happened several times with different companies.

...none of these "free" credit monitoring services are free. They give it to you in return for your personal information.

I have stumbled across some interesting insight for myself, for some here it may be old news.

First thing to do is sign up for the free Credit and identity protection from Equifax for a year.
Next
you could sign up with Credit Karma. For free you get your credit report from TWO credit agencies and receive notices on those if anything is noticed. That is free.

You may or may not find any of their other things they offer useful, but at least this does not cost any money and you can keep an eye on your credit reports for free.

You can also dispute ANYTHING on either of the two reporting agencies reports from Credit Karma tool.

Just another thing that we can do for free to help protect yourself...

Personally I think Equifax CEO and IT department people should all be taken to a gallows and hung...

The information that was stolen from them will be out there in crime land the rest of our lives whether it is used or not....

I also think that Equifax should supply everyone affected FREE identity protection and credit protection for the rest of their lives also.... That includes spouses whose info was stolen as well.....

Let's see how this settles out.

In meantime, protect yourself. Life Lock is a rip off at the Ultimate because it is only for ONE PERSON per month. IF your spouse also needs protection or cards in her name, you must purchase TWO plans.....

That's a rip....

I'll go with Credit Karma right now and see where we are.

You can also do a credit freeze on your accounts if you choose.. That will stop anything dead in its tracks...

Hope this might help someone....
