Finally, people do not have to enable it on their iPhones, they can just open it by typing their code.
Many people I know use nothing, which is stupid, because if they lose it or it gets stolen, everything on it is open to everyone who's got it.
I had my iPhone stolen in Paris last year, and didn't sweat it one bit, because I knew it was impenetrable, and USELESS to anyone who stole it. First, they could not get in, and after 10 tries the phone would reset itself to factory state, erasing everything. Second, without my iCloud account's password at startup, after reset, the phone could not be of use to anyone. It would not start up. So, they could shove it.
Anyway, a month later I received an automated emai to my iCloud account email,l from Apple's servers, that the phone was being reset, which means they gave up trying to get in, and tried to get in for the 10th time, invoking the reset. But, the phone was just as much a doorstop now, as it was before.
Same with Face ID. No game.
IPhones not only cannot be cracked, they are useless when tney are reset after multiple tries of entry with wrong credentials. All thieves can do is take them apart for parts.
My data is safe when I walk on the street, or anywhere, and Apple doesn't have it, either. It only keeps an ENCRYPTED version of my iCloud password, and the IMEI NUMBER, and CCID of my phone, which prevents that hardware to being used again, ever, without untying from my iCloud account.
That's why so many governments are pissed at Apple, because they cannot crack their current phones, nor iPads, nor newest Macs with Touch ID.
