DE - true for older GPS systems, and the chipsets used in them.

Many 'gps chips/chipsets' today also have transmitting capability in them. Are you SURE that your Magellan/Garmen/whatever systems have NO transmitting capability in them ?

I can almost guarantee 100% that current auto's have gps tied to transmission capability built into the cpu module - given the gubmint involvement- the lack of any significant cost differential - and wide availability of 'theft recovery' mechanisms for ALL current vehicles.

Micro-Gps tracking chips are quite cheap, and widely available.

Why would ANY nav system manufacturer use a 'receive only' chip in their designs, when a 'transmit also' design costs the same, and allows for a plethora of avenues for additional revenue from 'software upgrades', services, and data they could sell ?

Tesla just exposed how insidious these 'hidden features' really are in their 'Irmageddon battery upgrades' they made available.

Industry has NO vested interest in keeping your 'data' away from their thievin' lil hands.

Ever wonder how much data could be pulled from your nav system when you connect it to the internet for a 'map upgrade' ? Even if not transmitting 'all the time' or 'on demand' or 'not capable of transmitting'- once it is connected to the net - all bets are off.
