I don't have Win10 disks, it was a free install downloaded from the Internet. But I have a ton of applications and want to avoid reinstalling everything. I do have backups, but not an image of the whole C-drive with opsys.

Dear Linda,
The guru at work suggests 'Aomei Backupper'. He says
it will allow one to create an image of ones hard drive.
From which one could restore said hard drive (to a newer biggerone).

But I would strongly suggest you buy an external hard
drive bigger than what you are currently using. And
copy everything you think you might want to keep onto
it. (Assuming you haven't already done that.)

USB sticks are also pretty cheap, and pretty big. As
MIcro said, use a few of them to make more copies of
the most critical stuff.

This way, worst case scenario, slap a new (bigger) drive
in the computer and re-install windoze from the original
install disks. Let microsnot update everything and check
that things seem to work . . . then start re-installing
all your software and copying all the goodies over to it.

(There is also the possibility of installing a second
hard drive inside the machine - copy all the important
files to it and use it as a 'data drive'.)

Zim.
