Did quite a bit of reading and research into it- hit a lot of credible sites - and a couple of sites directly involved in the bite=me=coin scam.
Picked up my first VIRUS in over 15 years - didn't download squat, install diddly squat, nor click on any 'web install-me-you-idgit' fake links.
Noticed the cpu hit and pegged at 100% - IDENTIFIED THE PROGRAM: "Windows 7.exe" installed in C:\ProgramData\Windws7\Windows 7.exe - only file in that subdir.
The process could NOT be killed by Task Manager - well, it would kill it - but program always restarted. Disconnected from NET - killed program - CPU usage went back down to 0%. Within seconds after connecting back to net - program would again start running at 100% of CPU.
Ran trendmicro's housecall - it identified a 'Ransomware Trojan' and supposedly removed it. It did not. Manual deletion of the above file DID get rid of the program completely - and system scans clean. Back to normal.
THIS DOES NOT SURPRISE ME - THE LAST TIME I WENT AFTER A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR SCAM - I was also attacked by a virus.
CRIMINALS DO NOT LIKE BEING EXPOSED - AND THOSE INVOLVED WITH BITCOIN ARE DEFINITELY CRIMINALS.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good ...
