re: "In Texas - that kind of driving will cost you your vehicle and Drag racing is automatic impoundment, on the spot - with no possibility of recovery or contesting."

OCU is the one who should tell this story, but...

Years ago, he and his family were on the road in Texas. A car flew past him like he was standing still. Two or three miles further up the road, he topped a hill and saw an accident. The car that had been speeding had gone off the road, sailed into oncoming traffic and landed ON TOP OF someone else. The driver lived but he killed three people.

OCU stopped, of course. The driver was on the phone with his mother. OCU heard him say, "Mom? Guess what? I did it again."

OCU, who lives in California, returned to Texas to testify. He helped get the kid convicted. The fact that he'd been driving recklessly before the accident destroyed his "it was only an accident" defense.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Only once in my life have I ever been that fast - over 140 - very early in the morning (3 am or so) - Interstate -West Texas- ZERO traffic - and wanted to see what it would do (327 - 300HP+ - 66 Malibu - much lighter than a SS). Once that high was enough. Did some illegal drag racing on country roads - but we always cleared traffic both directions and had spotters to warn of oncoming, but not much.

There was an airman at the base that blue-printed a Dodge big-block in a Charger, did all the work himself - paid for it in less than a month. He wouldn't race for less than $500 a shot. He was turning 4.8-5.1 thru the quarter, if memory serves - STOCK. Yes - he put it on the circuit. Held a national record for a while. Competition like that quickly cured me of any desire to race for pinks or money. A LOT of much higher powered cars than mine were around, and many could leave me behind in a heartbeat. When they put it in gear at 50-60, leave rubber, and their rear ends are breaking loose - one better reconsider. *s*

A few years ago, on I-45/75 coming home, had one of those pocket rockets come past me doing well over 100+ - scared the crap out of me - sudden, extremely loud, like an explosion going off. A mile or so further down the road- a car had just flipped. Pretty sure it was that biker that caused it - but I did NOT see it happen. Don't have much use for folks that drag in traffic - and put other's lives at risk like those last two idiots did. Hope the cops nail 'em.

In Texas - that kind of driving will cost you your vehicle and Drag racing is automatic impoundment, on the spot - with no possibility of recovery or contesting.
