Speaking of genetics, if you have blue eyes and you meet someone else with blue eyes, you BOTH have at least ONE shared direct ancestor.
The really interesting thing is that there is NO so-called 'Blue-eyed' gene, there is only a gene which determines how much Brown pigment is added to your eyes thus controlling the actual color that they will appear. Rather, people with blue eyes have one extra gene, that appears to have been a genetic mutation, which basically disables this 'Brown-eyed' gene so that NO extra pigment of any color is created.

Disclaimer: I have Brown eyes and my wife has Blue eyes. Two of our three sons have blue eyes (they are also both left-handed) but only ONE of our five granddaughters has blue eyes (none of them are left-handed).
