If you can imagine, 7,000 bombs went off over what must have been seen or eight hours! I was about a mile and a half away.
I remember the event well... the mushrooming clouds and the shock waves. We first thought that someone's house must have blown up from a gas leak, but it wasn't long before more bombs began exploding and we heard that it was the rail yard. Up the street, shrapnel fell through someone's roof.
It was one of the more interesting things I've ever experienced.
