Probably true. I buy in quantity and have a huge number of things that have never even been opened: Generators, lawn tools, lawnmowers, chainsaws, solar panels, a windmill, tents, sleeping bags, quilts, ladders, trash bags and so forth. Last year I hauled 591 boxes and a lot of unboxed things (you can see some of the propane cans in the photo below) North. In April, I'll be taking another 300. By this time next year, I'll actually have enough room for it all!
One of my missions when the barn is complete is to start going through the boxes of miscellany and disposing of actual junk. There will be a lot of that. Some things were boxed up when I left California twelve years ago and will not get used because of obsolescence (film cameras, computers) or lack of interest (bullet reloading hardware). Others, like the hip waders and swimming pool have probably turned brittle and cracked. Pack rat mentality.
However, everything changes next year.
