I just got screwed royally by the electric company. They're charging me close to $11,000 for a telephone pole and a meter.

The thing is, that isn't even the whole expense. The power company brings power only 50 feet onto my land with that pole. My electrician then takes over, running it the rest of the way through an already-laid conduit to my barn. He'll put in a transformer to step the power down, then hook up the barn to the stepped down power. I'll be paying for all of that. I don't think he'll rip me off the way that the utility company is.

When I built my vacation house in 2005, I had a pole put in too. It was FREE - as that was the policy back then. The first pole is always free. I've heard that many times from my builder. Apparently things have changed in the last twelve years.
