Micro,
Wasn't that called a 'starlight scope' on that rifle?
As I recall from my post Vietnam service, it was a
'sniper scope' that magnified what little light there
was so the shooter could identify and hit the target.

(Call it a first generation night vision system?)

Zim.

starlight

That is a sniper rifle. It is a play on words. I had a sniper in my group in Nam. It don't take much light for a sniper to get a fix on his target. A lttle bit of starlight is all it takes. THAT is what ribit is saying I believe.

I can tell you we were grateful for that starlight when it wasn't pouring down buckets of rain in a hot, steamy, nasty jungle full of things and people who wanted to kill ya...

Another way to say it: A little starlight went a long way!
Grateful for a little....... In your case, I'll take as much as you care to share..... Glad to have you!
