FEMA Pulls Puerto Rico Water, Electricity Stats From Website
The website for the Federal Emergency Management Agency has removed key metrics describing the recovery from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. About half of Puerto Ricans are still without drinking water and only 9.2 percent of the island has electricity, but such information is no longer available on the federal site.
Those statistics, however, are still available on a Spanish-language website maintained by the office of Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, www.status.pr.
FEMA spokesman William Booher declined to explain in an interview with The Washington Post why the information is no longer on the main FEMA page, in addition to metrics about the number of federal workers on the ground and how many airports and post offices are open.
The numbers still available on the site all appear to bolster President Trump’s dubious claim that the island is making quick strides toward recovery despite negative media coverage.
