Wow, no wonder the town's going to watch! Going to be a nice, sturdy barn. That really is impressive soil cover that you have. Can't wait to see the pics of them pouring and the frame going up.

May the project exceed your expectations!

Work on our barn in New England is finally underway! The tallest vertical section you see is ten feet high - and since it's a retaining wall that has to go four feet underground, that means that it will be 14 feet high (or deep) and about 75 feet long (longer than the barn itself). It runs lengthwise through the middle of the two-tiered structure. It'll be a big pour.

The builder says it will be the largest building in town. Ha! I'm not sure if he's joking or not, but that's a small town for you. He said neighbors were coming up to watch...

I *love* seeing all that beautiful dirt. Until you've lived on ten acres of rock, you don't really appreciate what a luxury it is to have land with soft, diggable, buildable, FARMABLE dirt. It's unusual in the Granite State to have a field this size where you aren't hitting bedrock every time you go half a shovel down. (I bet the people who live at the base of the hill don't have it this good.)
