Dropping dead isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Oh, sure, sometimes. But it could be like my sister. She had a series of strokes over about six months. After the first one - which wasn't totally debilitating - she arranged for a housekeeper to check in on her twice a week or so and keep the place neat.

The last one happened when she was alone. The housekeeper found her on the ground, barely conscious and unable to move. No one knows how long she'd been there. Days, probably. What IS certain is that if she hadn't been found, she'd have eventually died OF THIRST.

That's not a pleasant thought, but it probably happens quite often to older people who choose to live alone.
