re: "Have you been up there in the Fall, with the colors out in all their glory?"
Would you believe that although we've been there many times in October and November, we've *never* seen the leaves turning? That usually happens in September.
We've never seen winter, either. Everyone tells us that it may be an eye-opener with regard to our decision to live there. LOL. I figure if we can get from the barn to the house and back again during winter, we should be just fine. Everything we need to wait out the winter (food, firewood, lamps, fuel) will be in one of those two places.
You can't see it from the video, but there is a very small town... about ten buildings... near one side of the property. Just a five minute walk unless the snow is waist deep. The town has a general store, a post office, and one of those white churches (with steeple) that you just mentioned. If we ever got desperate, we could buy supplies there.
There are places in the field where the church steeple is very noticeable. We'll likely erect a gazebo and a picnic table there since it might be the prettiest view.
It's great from everywhere, though. I'm not sure what you could see from the house since it's not built yet and the exact spot hasn't even been chosen, but it will be a bit higher than the ground and will no doubt have nice scenery in every direction. The barn will look like a single story building (though it's a two story) that's about a hundred feet downhill, so it isn't going to obstruct what can be seen in the least. If it's a good looking building, it might even make the view better.
re: "You have a lot of property there!"
We do. The best part is that the land has a ton of wilderness on three sides, and that tiny town on the 4th (the lower left corner, really). Here's an overhead (in which I've blotted out the street and stream names.) We're building near the middle of the big field. We own a chunk of the wilderness too, but we could keep going for miles if we decide to take a long walk or motorcycle ride up that snowmobile trail that runs along the brook. It's like there are no borders at all.

Thanks for posting the video. I remember some snapshots, but didn't see the video. Beautiful piece of land. My friends had a similar driveway, but not such a severe drop off and there are oak trees on both sides until you break out to the fields and house.
You have a great view, I hope you'll be able to see that from the house? Have you been up there in the Fall, with the colors out in all their glory?
I went up to New Paltz a few times in the Fall, with friends. The trees were bright yellow, it was an awesome sight to see the mountainsides in splendid color from the Mohawk Mountain House. This is a cool place to visit, you can get a day pass for lunch or dinner, hiking and such. It's a lot hillier than the picture lets on.
