Oh, that is just tooooooooo funny. Guess that is why I studied physics and geo-PHYSICS. Leave out the bit about a 'direct strike' and energy density versus distance (squared, not cubed - hyup admitting to a mistake) in order to denigrate the argument.

Sorry - ya just flunked logic 101, DE.

DE - don't take it so personally- I wasn't challenging YOU - just the post. However, it has been amusing. Appreciate the late nite tête-à-tête - you've posted some decent info - so have I. We differ on conclusions about that info. That is a prerogative we both are entitled to - without needing to attack or belittle the other. Think about it.

re: " I could (but won't) walk through the calculations of total energy released by an x-megaton nuclear device, and compare that to total energy of a single bolt of lightning, direct strike, use radius-cubed energy density and all that other stuff ... but gonna tell ya right now"

For the board's edification, a 4 megaton nuclear blast has the energy of 16.5 million lightning bolts. There'd be no point in comparing the effects of a nuclear blast to those of a single lightning bolt.

North Korea's H-bomb, if that's what it was, was in the 150 KILOTON range. But it's only a matter of time before they have something in the megaton range.

The biggest thermonuclear device ever exploded was about 50 megatons.
