Why don't we drop an A-bomb on a
North Korea A-bomb work site and
claim that North Korea screwed up?

re: " I could (but won't) walk through the calculations of total energy released by an x-megaton nuclear device, and compare that to total energy of a single bolt of lightning, direct strike, use radius-cubed energy density and all that other stuff ... but gonna tell ya right now"

For the board's edification, a 4 megaton nuclear blast has the energy of 16.5 million lightning bolts. There'd be no point in comparing the effects of a nuclear blast to those of a single lightning bolt.

North Korea's H-bomb, if that's what it was, was in the 150 KILOTON range. But it's only a matter of time before they have something in the megaton range.

The biggest thermonuclear device ever exploded was about 50 megatons.
