California wildfires have emitted a year's worth of car pollution
Wildfires in California have drastically reduced air quality in the Bay Area, inundating the region in just a matter of days with as much air pollution as emitted by drivers in the state over the course of a year.
The air quality levels in the Bay Area this week have been so bad that they have rivaled those in smog-enshrouded Beijing. The stifling smoke has prompted health advisories, canceled outdoor events, and closed schools for days. "There are people who didn't even have issues before that are experiencing issues now," said NBC News meteorologist Bill Karins.
