"Nobody but drunks and horse thieves was out after that hour."

Guilty as charged, sire.

...my grandpa was a farmer. Plowed with a mule. Went to bed before dark and got up before sun up for his morning chores. First he built a fire in a wood burning stove and when the chill (winter) got off the kitchen grandma would get up and fix breakfast. He would go off and slop the hogs (feed the pigs) and get the eggs from the henhouse and come back to the house and eat before hitching the mule up to the plow and going to the cornfield. He always told me that anyone who laid around in bed half a day waiting for the sun to come up would never amount to anything. Most folks in what is now called 'flyover country' lived that way. That's why I always refer to decent folks being in bed by 7pm. Nobody but drunks and horse thieves was out after that hour.
