That does get a little opaque.
The Voklavians are space going aliens. They mine for
most of the metals and other valuable minerals they
use on asteroids - in various star systems where-ever
they might find them.

So they have these space going mining ships spread
across some 160 light years of space. The Voklavian
space fleets primary job is to ensure other aliens do
not seize or destroy the mining ships.

A secondary duty is ensuring the mining ships are
operating safely . . . the crews are healthy and their
equipment is still safe to operate.

Other than that, any glaring problems with the snippet?
