Nemo, a word from someone who has had serious back surgery already and whose dad had the exact same fusion surgery you are referring to only they fused FIVE of his because there was not disk left in between.
1. I had five lamenectomies inthe lowest levels of the spine. S1 through L4 . It was an arthritic growing greenhouse. There were 45 dgree undercuts and overcuts and grinding to open up slots that had disappeared. Freeing up nerves that resided just underneath those slots but were impinged by the jagged arthritic coral like growth.
I am fine. I take a diclofenac 75 mg tablet twice a day and it seems to really help.
2. Dad. He was 80 when this 6 hour surgery was performed on him. He has a very long PIN (ROD) running through 5 vertebrae in the middle of his back.
He takes a tramadol once a day if needed but he is okay.
Has not been to chiropractor and except for the first month after the surgery when he was at rehab regaining his strength because he was 80 , he has not been to a chiropractor or any other doctor for his back.
May I ask, what is prognosis if you just leave it alone?
Also, am not sure about really needing to go to a chiro because they cannot really do anything with a steel rod holding a vertebra in place and risk bending the rod or cracking another vertebra it is connected with to help keep things aligned....

I think the answer to your problem likely needs to be looked for through answer to praying about it.
