De, good luck!

Side note, the stalls will also need sawdust or straw bedding, which needs to be mucked out daily and replaced periodically by your farm hands. One of the joys of owning animals, lol!

Starlight:

re: "Skip, just sunk in that the animal stalls would be over the hillside, not the first level. ..."

Correct.

If we were building on flat land, we'd have the animals on the lower level. But the pasture is uphill of the barn, and the barn is carved into the hillside. If we want the animals to exit the barn in the direction of the pasture, the animals can't be kept on the lower floor. If they're going to sleep on dirt, then the upstairs has to be larger than the downstairs.

And that's what I approved and thought was being built. It's clearly NOT what's being built, though.

The only ways I see to fix things are to keep the animals elsewhere (so that my building is no longer a barn) or to build stables connected to the barn. Fortunately, I think that last can be easily done.

The lean-to can be enclosed, hopefully without having to pour another foundation and turned into animal stables.

I have to discuss this with my builder. There's no rush. I won't have livestock for at least 3 or 4 years.

And, wow, was this ever been a challenge to communicate!
