Does anyone remember or KNOW why Chrysler actually BOUGHT American Motors ??

As I rember it, AMC owned the Jeep brand and Chrysler wanted it.
Either that or the Gremlin. ;-)

I am not as ancient as DGP or Ribit, but not far from there.

That said, DG's post about the RAM motto got me to thinking about Chrysler Corporation and of course the QUESTION.

Does anyone remember or KNOW why Chrysler actually BOUGHT American Motors ??

What did they get out of it by doing so? I just was thinking and so wondered if any of you all could remember or have a viable idea that makes sense or was this a deal that MADE no sense?

Just curious.
