Hawking want 'us' to go to Alpha Centauri.

from Alpha Centauri to here. Hawking wants to send a'nano-probe' there - launch the probe in 20 years and
have it get there in another 20 years - propelled
mostly on a laser beam. Feasible.
But, with our current best technologies it will take
multiple generations to get (people) there . . . And once we
get there is there a habitable planet for us to live
on?
Personally I think a better idea would be to move some
folks off earth - and onto the moon. Then look at moving
asteroids to Mars (to bulk up its mass to 'one standard gravity')
and add comets and other mostly water and gaseous
things to give it enough atmosphere and water to support
life as we know it.
All the while improving existing and inventing new
technologies - which might make it feasible for some
folks to try moving to Alpha C.

It would have to a MULTIPLE of the speed of light, not a percentage of it. The 4367 years is number of years traveling at speed of light it takes to get there.
IN order to get there in 40 years one would need to travel at over 100 times the speed of light......
I don't think that is going to happen..... Stephen is trying out to be an author for the next Series of Star Trek ......
