Yes, but I am not sure how you unite people with rhetoric.

The problem is that people believe very different things about America. And the constitutional structure isn't doing the job of reconciling these ideas.

For me, the issue IS the constitution. It doesn't permit organic growth too well.

Hence the civil war was needed to solve the issue of slavery, which a parliamentary discussion or a lawsuit might have resolved. But didn't.

You may end up needing to split the country up into more consistent chunks. Because neither side is happy with this arrangement.

A second civil war might be even less fun than the first.
