When I was a kid, we lived two blocks from
a packing plant. From time to time, a
chicken would escape. We caught some of
them and ate eggs. Every Sunday we would
have chicken for lunch. My grandmother
would grab one by the neck, swing it around
and pop the head off. I still do not care
much for chicken.

Re: “So, um, after that reading, what are you having for dinner tonight?”

LOL.

Undecided.

I actually posted the article because one of the free on-line college classes I'm in, Chicken Behaviour and Welfare, had it as recommended reading and I was finding it interesting. I figure if I'm going to raise chickens, I'd better start learning about them.

I'm not getting out much these days, spending my days working from home and putting on weight even as my muscles atrophy. Tomorrow, though, my son wants to visit his old high school, and I'll stop by the local international market and pick up some chicken leg quarters (59¢ a pound!). I've mastered the propane barbecue the apartment complex provides, and I'm often out there cooking even when the temperature is in the 20s.

So, that's tomorrow. Today, I don't know. I'll ask the wife when she gets home.
