Rumors are coming out of Iran that former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been arrested after shooting his mouth off:

Ahmadinejad said in a speech to a crowd of residents of the city of Bushehr in southern Iran, on Thursday evening before last with the start of recent protests : “Some of the current officials live away from the problems of the people and concerns, and do not know anything about the reality of society,” adding that “what it suffers Iran today is mismanagement and not lack of economic resources. ”

“The government of Hassan Rowhani believes that they own the land and that the people are a ignorant society that does not know,” Ahmadinejad said. “The people are angry at this government because of its monopoly on public wealth.”

The former president said that “Rouhani and his government team consider themselves a criterion for the right, and do not accept any criticism or objection directed to the performance of his government.”

Ahmadinejad’s remarks came after an attack by President Hassan Rowhani earlier on Thursday against Ahmadinejad, describing him as “walking in the path of confrontation with the regime.”

“Highlighting the weaknesses, the transient crises and the spreading of despair among the citizens is a course of confrontation with the regime,” Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the Iranian presidency website on Thursday, referring to the speech of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Wednesday criticizing Ahmadinejad. , In an indirect reference to Ahmadinejad’s recent remarks.

The former Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, responded to criticism by President Hassan Rowhani, saying: “The people who call you and elect you for a second term will fall you.”

That Ahmadinejad, who is not one of the “moderates” touted by the big-brained foreign policy thinkers, would be blamed for inciting the unrest is not at all surprising. As I posted earlier in the week, the common belief among actual Iranians that the “hard-liners” (I know, I laughed writing that) incited the demonstrations as part of an internal Iranian power-play that got totally out of control.

This is a sign of how serious things are in Iran. The regime is lashing about wildly, blaming the CIA and the “hard-liners” for the demonstrations. I have little doubt that the regime will suppress the current round on demonstrations but the weakness it has demonstrated indicates that it most likely is on borrowed time.
