MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said Tuesday that many Democrats have told him privately they believe Bill Clinton raped Juanita Broaddrick.
The comment came during a discussion of what Scarborough said was too much of a willingness by Republicans to accept an unacceptable president like Donald Trump, and he made a comparison to Democrats who looked past Clinton's alleged sexual misconduct because of their political agreements.
Scarborough left the Republican Party last year and is one of Trump's strongest critics in the media.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) remarked Monday on "The View" he had previously called Trump a "xenophobic, race-baiting religious bigot" but that he was also doing a lot of good things "on multiple fronts" as president.
"I just don't know how you split the difference with somebody who you believe is a xenophobic, racist bigot," Scarborough said, going on to recount again how he decided he would not vote for Trump in 2015 when the then-candidate discussed banning Muslims from the United States.
"How do you split the difference? And I'll make Democrats uncomfortable and make them hate me too, because I want to be an equal-opportunity offender," Scarborough said. "How did Democrats split the difference on Bill Clinton when they knew, or many believed and would tell me off the air that he raped Juanita Broaddrick? How do you split the difference to move your political agenda forward when, in Lindsey's case, he knows this guy's a racist … and called him a kook during the campaign?"
Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson remarked not everyone could split the difference and meet in the middle, ignoring the remark about Clinton and talking about Trump's infamous comment about there being fine people "on both sides" of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
"People can convince themselves of a lot of things, and they can forget, they can lose their moral compass very easily if somebody is in office doing things that they like," Robinson said.
Broaddrick has long alleged Clinton raped her in Arkansas in 1978 and Hillary Clinton "silenced" her on the matter. The former president has denied the accusation and never been charged with a crime.
