Immigration Agents Descend Upon Dozens of 7-Eleven Stores
Immigration agents on Wednesday targeted about a hundred 7-Eleven stores in a sweep to interview workers, open employment audits, and arrest 21 people suspected of being in the country illegally.
According to the Associated Press, the action was aimed at management conducting illegal hiring practices more than at undocumented workers. President Trump has, since stepping into the Oval Office, increased deportation arrests by 40 percent and proposed to spend billions on a border wall with Mexico.
Top ICE official Derek Benner called Wednesday’s operation “the first of many” and “a harbinger of what’s to come.”
In November, The Daily Beast first reported that federal agents were planning an operation aimed at a national food-service chain.
