Teen planned escape from California torture house for two years

A 17-year-old girl who escaped from a California house of horrors had been planning her bid for freedom for two years, authorities said Thursday.

The detail was revealed at a news conference where it was announced that David and Louise Turpin, whose 13 children were held captive, face life in prison on charges of torture, child abuse and false imprisonment. The father also faces one count of a lewd act on a child.

EXCLUSIVE: 13 captive siblings in California allowed to eat once a day, shower twice a year

The 13 starving siblings held captive in a California house were allowed to eat only one rationed meal a day and shower just twice a year, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case told NBC News.

The home of David Allen Turpin and his wife, Louisa Anna Turpin, was a veritable prison, where some of the children were chained to furniture and rooms filled with urine, the law enforcement official said. The disturbing details come as the couple are expected to make their first court appearance later Thursday.
