Cape Town, a city of 4 million, is less than three months from turning off its water due to years of drought
South Africa's showcase city is projected to reach "Day Zero" on April 12, making it the first major city in the world to run dry.
The causes have been brewing for a while. Since around the end of white minority rule in 1994, Cape Town's population has exploded by about 80 percent, straining city water resources.
If Cape Town turns off the taps, many people would have to go to collection points guarded by security forces for a daily ration of water.
