I don't know how I forgot to post this earlier, but I came across a great UVA choir piece this evening when I was reviewing what I had on my laptop and decided to put it on Youtube. I might as well share it here too.
There are around a hundred students in UVA's main choir, The University Singers. A subset of the University Singers are selected by the Director for the school's Chamber Choir. They are, presumably, the cream of the crop.
I recorded this Chamber Choir number last Fall and was apparently outed by my son who later told me that the Director was ticked off when he found out. Oh well. What's done is done. http://youtu.be/TlBFx8MkS90
My son is the small young man on the left. You can hear him very easily at the 3'05" mark.
This semester, Joey declined to be in the Chamber Choir. He didn't have the time for it since he and a friend are creating their own student-led choir. He's doing the University Singers but not the Chamber Choir. Nevertheless, the Director asked him a few weeks ago to participate in the Chamber Choir's initial 2018 concert. Joey knew the songs so he agreed. It was obviously a sign of confidence in my son by the school's Choir Director. That and the horrifying shortage of tenors - LOL!
The concert was a big deal, populated only by donors and dignitaries being courted by the school. There was a catered affair afterward that the singers were allowed to attend and it had what my son said was the best food he'd ever eaten. I could share a story with you about how he was busted trying to swipe some food to share with his dorm-mates (hey, he wasn't the only one who tried!) but it'll have to wait. I'll only share that he was caught and sheepishly returned the food . . . but not ALL the food. LOL. That's my boy. It's late...
